This standard addresses IP-based digital telephony (sometimes referred to as “Voice over IP”) on the VHN. As the VHN is inherently digital it does not address analog telephony; nor does it address non-packet digital telephony, such as the streaming service provided by ISDN. However, future versions of this standard may address non-IP telephony. Also, note that this Standard defines the requirements for implementing a telephony function on a VHN.

This paper addresses security concerns related to the connected devices for consumers in the home. Many of these devices fall into what is being referred to as the smart home or the Internet of Things (IoT). There is a general lack of consensus on the definition of the IoT. For the purpose of this paper we will be addressing the collection of uniquely identifiable, accessible and consumer oriented Internet-connected electronic devices and the services that drive their functionality.

Initial agreement was to withdraw CTA-2027-B. A vote was scheduled on 10/17/2012 to withdraw but quorum was not present during that time of the vote. The next vote was scheduled for March 21, 2013, however prior to the vote to withdraw, NAB (Art Allison) submitted a request for R7 to consider Reaffirming the standard instead due to its relevance to the industry. The vote was deferred until R7 Chair Card could discuss this new recommendation. No further action taken until March 2018.

This standard specifies a communication protocol for networked control systems. The protocol provides peer-to-peer communication for networked control using web-services. The standard describes services in layer 1 and layer 2.
The layer 1 (physical layer) describes the MAC sub-layer interface to the physical layer. The layer 2 (data link layer), as described in ANSI/CTA 709.1, is integrated in UDP/IP communication using IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

Develop a standard defining XML templates and/or schema and related requirements for use by manufacturers. Manufacturers will use these templates and/or schema to describe some or all of their devices’ functionality, data formats and messaging. The schema developed by manufacturers can then be used by developers to create applications, products and services that communicate with and control the devices. Developed a Device Description Table to be used by manufacturers to fill.
