NRSC AFAB AM & FM Analog Broadcasting Subcommittee |
The AFAB Subcommittee develops standards and guidelines pertaining to AM and FM analog broadcasting services. Technical work in this Subcommittee is primarily focused on the analog audio services which broadcasters provide in the AM and FM frequency bands, and RF requirements stemming from these analog modulation methods. |

NRSC DRB Digital Radio Broadcasting Subcommittee |
The DRB Subcommittee develops standards and guidelines pertaining to AM and FM digital broadcasting services. This Subcommittee focuses on the transmission aspects of in-band/on-channel AM and FM digital radio systems, in contrast to the DSM Subcommittee which principally focuses on data (content and metadata) protocols. One specific responsibility of this Subcommittee is to maintain and update as necessary the NRSC-5 In-band/on-channel Digital Radio Broadcasting Standard. |
NRSC DRB ISDWG IBOC Standards Development Working Group |
The ISDWG was established by the NRSC Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Subcommittee (the precursor to the DRB Subcommittee) “…to draft an IBOC DAB technical standard as expeditiously as possible.” That task was completed in April 2005 with the adoption by the DAB Subcommittee of the NRSC-5 Standard. Subsequently, the work of this group was expanded to review and update as necessary the NRSC-5 Standard as well as to develop Guideline documents which inform broadcasters and broadcast equipment and receiver manufacturers on best practices and other information to support the use and proliferation of AM and FM in-band/on-channel digital radio systems. |
NRSC DSM Data Services and Metadata Subcommittee |
The DSM Subcommittee develops standards and guidelines for digital information that radio broadcasters send to their audiences via the growing number of data transmission technologies in use today. This Subcommittee focuses on data (content and metadata) protocols, in contrast to the NRSC DRB Subcommittee which principally focuses on the transmission aspects of in-band/on-channel AM and FM digital radio systems.
This Subcommittee owns and maintains the body of work from its predecessor, the NRSC Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) Subcommittee. This Subcommittee also has responsibility for working with other standards bodies in this area of focus, specifically including the RDS Forum and the International Electrotechnical Committee for the maintenance of the Radio Data System (RDS) Standard currently embodied as IEC-62106. |
NRSC DSM EAIWG Emergency Alerting and Information Working Group |
The EAIWG was established to develop standards and guidelines regarding the distribution of emergency alerts and information via transmission technologies in use by AM and FM broadcasters. These technologies include analog and digital radio, internet streaming and other distribution technologies as may be used by broadcasters. |
NRSC National Radio Systems Committee |
The National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC) is jointly sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). R7 also provides a forum for non-CTA home network standards formulating bodies interested in working with CTA. R7 also works to ensure that current and future networks can coexist and be used to share information through the use of industry standard interfaces. R7 should coordinate with internationally recognized bodies in this field, for example, ISO, IEC, ATIS, and IETF. |
